2017 Wyoming Cattle Industry Convention & Trade Show “Johnson County – the Peaceful Re-Invasion

The 2017 Wyoming Cattle Industry Convention and Trade Show will be held June 6-9 at the Bomber Mountain Civic Center in Buffalo, Wyo., and surrounding areas. This convention will revolve around the theme “Johnson County – the Peaceful Re-Invasion” with a focus on the history of the Johnson County cattle wars and provide educational events for convention attendees and local community members to improve their ranching operation. Hosted by the Wyoming Stock Growers Association (WSGA), the annual convention is open to members, non-members, state and the local media. This convention will feature Key Note speaker, Bruce Vincent, and other speakers such as Dr. Keith Belk, Kent Holsinger, Greg Hanes, Meat Export Federation; Jerimiah Rieman, Director, ENDOW; invited speaker Season Solario, NCBA as well as Governor Matt Mead and the Wyoming Congressional Delegation.

 

Tuesday, June 6 will start the convention with the Branding Iron Classic Golf Tournament opening at 7:45 a.m. at the Buffalo Golf Club.  Hosted by the Wyoming Stock Growers Land Trust and WSGA-Young Producers Assembly, this 9-hole golf scramble, is a great opportunity to meet industry supporters and ranchers from across the state in a fun environment. Wednesday, June 7 will provide to be an educational day as producers and the public learn the importance of soil at the Rangeland Soil Health Workshop in Buffalo, Wyoming. Attendees will have an opportunity to participate in a morning in-class learning session and an afternoon on-the-ground hands on workshop at the Merlin Ranch. At 3:30 p.m. the Young Producers Assembly, WSGA’s most recent addition, will hold their business meeting at the Bomber Mountain Civic Center. Following this event at 6:00 p.m., a historical tour and reception will be held at the TA Ranch south of Buffalo, Wyoming as we travel back in time to 1892 and the Johnson County Cattle Wars. 

 

On Thursday, June 8 at 8:00 a.m., the convention will kick off with the Roundup Breakfast and the opening General Session featuring a welcome to Johnson County and Key Note speaker, Bruce Vincent. Following the morning presentations, committee meetings will begin and then move to the Cattlemen’s Club Luncheon at 12:30 p.m. Committee meetings will continue into the afternoon.  The night will conclude at 6:00 p.m. with the Reception, Raffle, and Auction at the Bomber Mountain Civic Center main gym. Raffle items include the Grand Prize a 10 day Clear Out West (C.O.W.) Cruise to Hawaii for two which includes airfare, an indoor estate room, private tour of the Parker Ranch, Pearl Harbor Memorial and much more. 1st Grand Prize is a Honda generator and 2nd Grand Prize a custom ranch sign, a $400 value, from Allwayz Manufacturing in Pine Bluffs, WY. On Friday, June 9, WSGA will hold the final General Session featuring annual reports from the Wyoming stock Growers Land Trust, Wyoming Beef Council, Wyoming CattleWomen, Wyoming Young Producers Assembly, and Wyoming Stock Growers Association regarding work they have done throughout 2017 so far and plan to do in the time ahead. The Wyoming’s Congressional Delegation is invited speak regarding important issues to Wyoming’s citizens and livestock producers. At 12:00 p.m., Wyoming Governor Matt Mead will address the WSGA membership at the Awards Luncheon and present the winning applicant the Clifford P. Hansen Memorial Scholarship a check of $1,000 towards their studies and then conclude with the presentation of the Leopold Conservation Award to the Garrett Ranch of Casper, WY. The day will conclude with the WSGA Business meeting starting at 2:00 p.m. and the convention will conclude.
