Legal Advocates for Agriculture: Mountain States Legal Foundation

Many factors determine the success of farmers and ranchers. Whether it be the weather, agriculture markets or decisions from the State and Federal Government. What happens when farmers and ranchers become entangled in litigation and courtroom battles? Many seek help from agriculture associations that they are members of and also legal advocates. The Mountain States Legal Foundation is one group that takes on cases for hardworking agriculturists in the West.

During the Montana Farm Bureau's Summer Conference, the MSLF President William Perry Pendley spoke with producers about the legal challenges the industry faces and the importance of telling their story.

Endangered Species Act Reform: Wyoming Leads the Charge

Agriculture groups and elected officials from rural communities are coming out strong in support of the Endangered Species Act Amendments of 2018. The bill, sponsored by Wyoming U.S. Senator John Barrasso, would give more power to state and local governments to make a decision based on their areas unique landscapes, individual needs, and conditions on the ground. Barrasso who chairs the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, held a hearing on the bill this week and believes reforms must take place for species to recover and be taken off the list entirely.

Visiting with elected officials and meeting with agency personnel is a critical part of advocacy.
