MT Grain Growers Association Annual Convention

Event date: 11/28/2017 - 11/30/2017 Export event

MGGA Convention & Trade Show Coming November 28-30

Great Falls – The 2017 Montana Grain Growers Association Convention and Trade Show is scheduled for Tuesday, November 28 through Thursday, November 30, at the Best Western Heritage Inn in Great Falls, Montana.

With nearly 900 in attendance, a dynamic and educational agenda, and a full trade show with over 70 exhibitors, the MGGA Convention is one of Montana’s largest agricultural gatherings.

“If you’re a grain producer, this is the annual event you don’t want to miss,” according to Broadview area farmer Michelle Jones, MGGA Vice President and this year’s Convention Chairman. “Our theme, ‘Past, present and future: Building on wheat’s legacy,’ will honor the long history of wheat production in Montana and recognize the many advances that have been made over the years in growing Montana’s principal crop.”

Events begin Tuesday with a half day workshop titled “Positioning Your Farm Business for Successful Transition,” presented by popular farm business management consultant and Idaho farmer Dick Wittman. This workshop includes a case study work session and examines best management practices that must be implemented for a family farm business to excel and pass successfully from generation to generation.

On Wednesday and Thursday, the agenda is packed with speakers on a variety of topics including world wheat markets, farm politics and policy, research priorities and advanced wheat breeding, micronutrients, alternative crops, wheat quality and grading, milling and processing options, the public image of agriculture and engaging with consumers, and so much more.

A special event this year celebrates the 50-year anniversary of the Montana Wheat & Barley Committee, the producer-funded checkoff organization whose mission is to foster the health and prosperity of the Montana wheat and barley industry by encouraging scientific research; maintaining current markets; promoting new market development; and serving as an educational and informational resource.

Most importantly, convention is the time when MGGA members come together to debate existing and proposed resolutions through the important grassroots process that sets our policy platform for the coming year.
