2020 College National Finals Rodeo Cancelled

by

An event that many look forward to every year has been cancelled due the COVID-19 Pandemic. The National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA) released this statement about the decision.

“It is with very heavy hearts that the NIRA and the CNFR Committee announce the cancellation of the 2020 College National Finals Rodeo, June 14th – 20th.  As everyone involved with this event can testify, this is not the outcome we were hoping for, but public safety during the COVID-19 Pandemic is our most important concern.”

NIRA Commissioner Roger Walters said, “We are devastated to be making this announcement.  We wanted to be competing in Casper this summer, but we have to do the right thing to combat this Pandemic and keep our contestants and the State of Wyoming safe.”

Faculty Director of the Big Sky Region and Head Coach for the Northwest College Rodeo Trappers Del Nose said, “it’s been his mind for a long time and he is thankful none of the kids have to go down there.” Nose also mentioned he is hopeful for a fall season however it is still in question if there will be one or not.

NIRA board members have a conference call tomorrow to discuss business and what the next steps will be.
