3 Titles for 3 Broadus Rodeo Stars

by

The town of Broadus located in South East Montana has a vibrant history. From its agricultural legacy to its renowned tradition of fostering the spirit of rodeo and producing stars in the arena.

Just this year alone, three young men who have walked or are currently walking the halls of the Powder River School District have accomplished what many in the rodeo community hope to achieve. That, of course, is winning a national title.

At the 2017 National High School Rodeo Association Finals, Houston Brown came back to the Treasure State with the NHSRA's Saddle Bronc title.

Earlier this fall Jess Lockwood (who calls Volborg home and attended Powder River County District High) became the youngest person to win the Professional Bull Riders World Championship.

This week in Las Vegas, another Broadus up and coming rodeo star won a national title at the 2017 Junior NFR! 14-year-old,  freshman in high school Garrett Cunningham won the Junior NFR 2017 Sr. Saddle Bronc riding.

According to their website, the Junior NFR presented by YETI occurs during the Wrangler NFR in Las Vegas. Throughout the year there were rodeo qualifiers held across the nation.

In Las Vegas, the finals consisted of eight events with various age groups per event.

Events included: Bull Riding, Bareback Riding, Saddle Bronc Riding, Steer Wrestling, 19 & Under Girls Breakaway, 14 & Under Girls Breakaway, 10 & Under Boys and Girls Breakaway, 15 & Under Team Roping, 19 & Under Team Roping, 19 & Under Tie Down, 13 & Under Tie-Down, 11 & Under Barrel Racing and 16 & Under Barrel Racing.

Garrett was just one of many Montana youth competing this week in Las Vegas!

Northern Ag Network would like to tip their hat to Garrett Cunningham, Houston Brown, and Jess Lockwood.

There is no doubt something in the water in Eastern Montana that makes rodeo stars!
