30th Montana Cowboy Poetry Gathering & Western Music Rendezvous, Lewistown MT

by

(Lewistown, MT, June 3, 2015)   In celebration of its 30th anniversary, a feature article, “Montana Cowboy Poetry Gathering” appears in the July 2015 issue of COWBOYS AND INDIANS MAGAZINE.

This August 13-16, Montana Cowboy Poetry in Lewistown will be blowing out 30 candles on the cake!  Just one year younger than the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Elko, Nevada, Montana Cowboy Poetry is the 2nd oldest gathering in the country.

The article in COWBOYS AND INDIANS MAGAZINE highlights many of the special attractions at this year’s gathering and includes quotes from RED STEAGALL who will be headlining at the Saturday night Grand Stage Show with Montana-born songster, Dave Stamey.

Other specialties include a ‘living history exhibit’ of a Missouri Breaks sheep herder wagon, exhibition of a vintage western shirt collection, and the publishing of a collectible book, “A Rhyme Runs Through It.”  In the book, over 80 individuals who have performed over the last 30 years, share their original cowboy poetry and song lyrics.  Poetry from some participants who have already passed over The Big Divide is also included.  The introduction is by Baxter Black and the cover is the creative design of award-winning Montana artist, Shari Jenkins Schmit.

Another new event will be re-enactment of the demise of infamous horse thief, Rattlesnake Jake at noon on Main Street, Sat. Aug. 15th  performed by the Judith Mountain Players.

Montana Cowboy Poetry Gathering is proud to celebrate and perpetuate the heritage of the American cowboy of the upper Rocky Mountains.   Lewistown, located in the middle of Montana, is western without even trying.   Historic Main Street looks much the same as it did 100 years ago and cattle production, wheat and hay production still dominate the area.

Inclusion in COWBOYS AND INDIANS MAGAZINE will introduce many new western enthusiasts to Montana Cowboy Poetry and the authentic western experience offered at the annual gathering.
