On May 25, 2012, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture will accept 3.9 million acres offered under the 43rd Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) general sign-up. During the extended five-week signup, the Department received nearly 48,000 offers on more than 4.5 million acres of land.
How does it break down locally?
In Montana, 1,335 out of 2,240 offers were accepted. This adds up to 259,054 acres. CLICK HERE to see the county-by-county breakdown.
While we haven’t received the official numbers from the following states, USDA personnel gave us the following estimated breakdown. It will be updated when the county-by-county numbers become available.
In Wyoming, 157 of 216 offers were accepted. That represents acceptance of roughly 46,000 of the 60,000 acres offered.
In North Dakota, 190,000 acres of the 330,000 offered were accepted. Two thousand of the 3,500 offers were accepted.
In South Dakota, 620 of the 1,000 offers were accepted. This totals 55,000 acres of the 89,000 offered.
