MSGA Celebrates Members’ Appointments to Key Livestock Industry Boards

by Colter Brown

The Montana Stockgrowers Association (MSGA) is pleased to announce board appointments for multiple MSGA members who have been appointed by Governor Greg Gianforte to serve on key livestock industry boards and have recently received senate approval during the 69th legislative session.

“We are thrilled to see these outstanding individuals appointed to serve in state leadership roles,” shared Lesley Robinson, MSGA President. “Each of these members brings a wealth of experience and passion for Montana’s agricultural industry. Their leadership will ensure the needs of our state’s ranchers and livestock producers are served.”

The Montana Board of Livestock

The Board of Livestock, consisting of seven members appointed by the Governor with the consent of the Senate, represents various segments of Montana’s livestock industry. These members play an integral role in addressing critical issues facing the industry and making decisions that will shape the future of the state’s agriculture.

In his first term and confirmation, Eric Moore, of Miles City, was appointed to serve a term ending March 1, 2029. Moore brings a wealth of knowledge and experience from his background in the Montana livestock industry as well as previously serving in the Montana legislature. His work with cattle production and commitment to Montana’s agricultural heritage will be valuable assets to the board.

Additionally, Jake Feddes of Belgrade, was re-appointed and confirmed for a second term ending March 1, 2031. Feddes, a producer from the Gallatin Valley, is well-known for his expertise in livestock production, meat processing, and the challenges facing Montana’s ranching communities. His appointment is a reflection of his longstanding dedication to supporting Montana agriculture.

Montana Livestock Loss Board

The Livestock Loss Board is composed of five Governor appointed members, confirmed by the Senate. This board serves Montana livestock communities by reducing the economic impacts of wolves, grizzly bears, and mountain lions on individual producers by providing reimbursements and providing funding for conflict prevention.

Doreen Gillespie, of Ethridge, was re-appointed and confirmed to serve her second term ending January 2, 2029. Gillespie has been a dedicated member of the board, previously serving in her last term as the board chair. Her experience ranching has given her invaluable expertise and understanding of the challenges for ranchers surrounding predator conflict.

Montana Board of Veterinary Medicine

The Montana Board of Veterinary Medicine protects the health, safety and well-being of Montana citizens through the regulation and oversight of veterinary medicine and the licensing of professionals. Board members serve a five-year term and are appointed by the Governor then confirmed by the Senate.

MSGA member Josh Donald, of Melville, was confirmed on the Board of Veterinary Medicine in the seat of the public member on the board. He is the President of Cayuse Livestock Company, a successful family ranch in south central Montana and has in-depth knowledge of the crucial relationships between ranchers and veterinarians. Donald’s livestock producer perspective and experience will be an excellent addition to the board.

MSGA testified on behalf of each of its members during their senate confirmation hearings advocating and providing a vote of confidence that these individuals will be effective leaders and bring valuable experience and knowledge to the boards that each will serve on.
