Ag Appreciation Weekend slated for Dillon Oct. 23-24

Southwest Counties Farm Bureau and The University of Montana –Western have teamed up to host Ag Appreciation Weekend October 23-24 in Dillon.

Activities kick off Friday night with the Southwest Counties Farm Bureau Young Farmer and Rancher (YF&R) Discussion Meet at 7 p.m. at the Elks. The Farm Bureau Discussion Meet contest is designed to simulate a committee meeting where discussion and active participation are expected from each participant. This competition is evaluated on an exchange of ideas and information on a pre-determined topic. The winner will receive a cash prize and the chance to compete in the Montana Farm Bureau YF&R Discussion Meet Nov. 9 during MFBF Annual Convention in Missoula. The winner of the MFBF competition receives a new Polaris Ranger and an all-expense paid trip to compete at the national level in Orlando in January.

Saturday is game day in Dillon. The UM-Western tailgate will open at 10 am and kick off is at 1 pm against the Rocky Mountain College Battlin’ Bears. Ryan Nouse, athletic director, UM-Western, believes this is a really opportunity to show Western’s appreciation and ties to the agricultural community.
Southwest Counties Farm Bureau will have a tailgate at the event where they will not only be hosting tailgate refreshments, but offering ATV safety tips.

“Agriculture is the premier industry in Southwest Montana and recognizing the contribution of our agriculturists is important,” notes Southwest Counties Farm Bureau President Hope Kincheloe. “We urge area groups and businesses show their appreciation for agriculture by participating in this exciting weekend. We hope to see this grow in upcoming years to include other events. This really is a win for UM-Western and our ag community.”
