Ag Seed Bill is now before the Montana House

by

HELENA – A Senate Bill supported by the Montana Ag Coalition to assure uniform, knowledge-based regulation of Agricultural Seed is now before the Montana House.

SB155 carried by Sen. Mike Lang of Malta will be heard in the House Ag Committee at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, March 7th.

One of the prominent member organizations of the Montana Ag Coalition is the Montana Grain Growers Association, whose Vice-President Michelle Erickson-Jones last week penned an Opinion Editorial to explain why this legislation is so important to her membership.  CLICK HERE to read that Editorial.

As reported earlier by Northern Ag Network, SB155 was designed to help Montana avoid a dilemma that farmers in other states sometimes face, when local urban county and municipal governments try to pass laws that restrict farming practices. Such has happened in several western states like Oregon, Washington, California and most recently Colorado.   (CLICK HERE to read the Northern Ag Network report from Boulder County in Colorado, that recently voted to ban the growing of genetically modified corn and sugar beets on all county-owned farmland.)

SB155 will have its first hearing in the House on Tuesday March 7, with action expected from the House Ag Committee by mid-March.
