Ag Will See Cuts in Continuing Resolution

by

With the guts of the budget discussion on the continuing resolution that will fund the federal government through 2011expected to be discussed by Congress on Wednesday, the National Farmers Union told us today that agriculture is going to see cuts.  These could possibly be to the tune of $1.9 billion.

Roger Johnson, NFU President, outlined where they believe those cuts will be.

To accomplish the cuts, Roger says that we will see changes in the current farm bill as money that was there originally will no longer be.  He also expressed some disgust about the situation of still planning this year’s budget with the fiscal year half over.  He told us that, “if farmers were still struggling over the budget year that they’re in while they’re halfway through farming, they’d be out of business.”
