America’s Great Outdoors Initiative Coming to SD

by

In April of this year, President Obama established the America’s Great Outdoors Initiative that, according to a federal website, is meant to conserve outdoor spaces and reconnect Americans to the outdoors.

Those involved are continuing to hold listening sessions to gain input and a lot of what they’ve heard from our region so far has been concerns that this is somehow linked to potential national monument designations in the west.

Those in control of the sessions, however, continue to contend that this is a bottom-up approach to look at conservation.  Whatever the intentions are, on November 15th, 2010, those in charge will report back to the President on what they have learned from us, with recommendations for a conservation agenda.

The latest stop (and potentially one of the last in our region) will take that discussion to Fort Pierre, South Dakota this Wednesday.  The sessions will begin at 8:45 Central Time at the AmericInn, so please if you can make it to that meeting, show up and let your voice be heard.
