MALTA –A bull named HA Cowboy Up sold for $350,000 Tuesday at the Hinman Angus annual bull sale in Malta.

The bull is the son of HA Outside and was born in January 2015. He was purchased by a ranch consortium from Montana.

Auctioneer Joe Goggins estimated the bull's semen will sell for over $1 million during his lifetime.

Genetics and birth weight data are factors in the selling price of such bulls.

A representative of Montana Stockgrowers Association said the sale price is one of the highest ever paid for an Angus bull in Montana. He also said the bull obviously has big earning potential and will likely help ranchers across the state improve their herd.
