Canadian wheat growers may reduce seeding by 7.4 percent this year and increase the amount of canola they plant, according to a government survey.

Farmers will sow 24.1 million acres of wheat in 2014, down from 26 million a year earlier, Statistics Canada said today in Ottawa. The average estimate of 11 analysts surveyed by Bloomberg News was 24.4 million acres.

Canola acres in the country, the world’s biggest grower, may rise 1.5 percent to 20.2 million acres from 19.9 million acres in 2013. Analysts in a Bloomberg survey expected 20 million acres.

Statistics Canada said it interviewed 24,800 farmers between May 28 and June 10.
