Cheney Pushes for BLM 2.0 Rule Repeal

by

This month freshman Wyoming Congressman Liz Cheney sponsored a resolution to repeal the Bureau of Land Managements (BLM) Planning 2.0 Rule. Cheney said the rule that was finalized in the last days of “the Obama Administration would have gone even further than they already had in the last eight years in centralizing control and authority over decisions about how to manage our public lands in Washington.”  Essentially, taking away local authority and input with the new rule.

Cheney along with multiple agriculture groups and other elected officials saw this as the government taking away local input in regards to how public lands are managed. The National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) and the Public Lands Council (PLC) hailed the U.S. House passage of Cheney’s resolution, calling it a “huge victory” for America’s ranchers.

The NCBA and PLC say that the Obama Administration finalized the BLM Planning 2.0 Rule in December. Under the Congressional Review Act, the U.S. House and Senate have up to 60 legislative days after a new rule becomes final to approve a joint resolution of disapproval, which will fully repeal the final rule if and when the resolution becomes law.

Now, the resolution to repeal the BLM Planning 2.0 Rule must be voted on by the U.S. Senate. It will then be sent to President Trump for his signature.
