The approximately 1,100,000-acre Charles M. Russell National Wildlife Refuge (CMR) is now ever so slightly larger after a land purchase in McCone County. Northern Ag Network spoke with CMR Project Lead Rick Potts on Tuesday and he confirmed that land was added to the CMR this year.
He explained that Congress has given the CMR authority to purchase certain land if it comes up for sale by a willing seller.At the time of our interview, Potts was unsure on the exact size of the property that was purchased. Without having the information in front of him, he estimated that it was roughly 2 ½ sections.
