Montana Cowboy Hall of Fame seeks nominations for Class of 2015

Big Timber – The Montana Cowboy Hall of Fame & Western Heritage Center (MCHF & WHC) is seeking nominations for the 2015 Montana Cowboy Hall of Fame induction round. Every year, the MCHF & WHC honors living and historical figures that have made notable contributions to Montana’s western heritage.

“The Hall of Fame nominations are open to the general public,” said Mark Larson, MCHF & WHC director, and chairman of the Board Trustees Committee. “We encourage all to reflect on notable contributions to our western heritage and help us celebrate by nominating those from your community you believe serve as an example for next generation.”

2015 will mark the fifth year the MCHF & WHC will honor living historical figures and the eighth year of honoring legacy (non-living) inductees. One living inductee and two legacy inductees from each of the MCHF & WHC’s 12 Trustee Districts will be chosen from votes cast by the MCHF & WHC Board of Trustees based on nominations from the public. Nominees are assigned to a Trustee District for consideration based on the local area where their notable contributions were made.

Nominees can be men, women, ranches, stage coach lines, animals, hotels, etc.—anyone or anything that has made a notable contribution or serves as a notable example of our Montana western heritage. A full listing of inductees from 2008-2014, the 2015 nomination criteria, and more about the Hall of Fame induction process can be found online at http://www.montanacowboyfame.org. If you would like to make a nomination, you must contact the MCHF & WHC at cstensland@montanacowboyfame.com or by calling (406) 932-5444 prior to the submission deadline to express your intent to nominate. All nominations must complete according to the nomination criteria and submitted by March 31, 2015.

The 2015 Class of the MCHF & WHC will be announced by press release by June 30, 2015. Winning inductees will be honored at the 2016 Annual Circle the Wagons Gathering.

Wyoming:

2015 Nominations Now Open for Wyoming Cowboy Hall of Fame

The Cowboy State is excited about preserving the history of those who have built and continue to perpetuate Wyoming’s important and successful livestock industry. With a sterling First Class of Honorees already enshrined, the 501(c)3 non-profit WCHF is now actively seeking nominations of deserving men and women whose lives and work did or do revolve around cattle and horses and Wyoming’s ranching cowboy lifestyle.

If you know a real cowboy who’s at least 65 years of age, has spent at least 45 years in the saddle, and has been a Wyoming resident most of that time, please nominate him or her for consideration as a 2015 WCHF Honoree. Nominations opened with the New Year and will close on March 31st, so that’s a small window of time – please do not procrastinate about nominating.  Simply click on “Inductee Nomination” to begin entering your own nominees.

If you are wondering if a person you know is qualified you’ll find this list helpful.

1. Cowboy means Cowgirl too.

2. Minimum age for inductee is sixty five (65). Special circumstances can be considered. Inductees may be honored posthumously.

3. Minimum time of forty-five (45) years in the saddle.

4. Nominees don’t need to have been born in Wyoming, but all nominees must have had primary residency in the state of Wyoming as a working cowboy/cowgirl.

5. Nominees don’t need to have owned a ranch, they could have been a ranch hand.

6. Rodeo will not eliminate nominee, but they must demonstrate other ranching, riding or cowboy skills.

7. The Wyoming county the nominee spent the majority of their life in is required so we know which committee to send the nomination to.

8. Each nominator is responsible for the accuracy of the information in the application.

9. We encourage nominators to include: place of birth, parents/family occupation, education, skills, awards or honors, etc.

The names and bio’s of nominees not selected in a given year will remain in the nomination pool for consideration in later years.  Regional induction ceremonies for 2014 Honorees are ongoing. Region 5, encompassing Johnson and Sheridan counties, plans an Induction bash at Sheridan’s Holiday Inn beginning at 4 pm on Saturday, February 21st. If you’re in the area, this is an event you will not want to miss. Meanwhile, consider all the true cowboys of your acquaintance and begin nominating them so they can be honored in the same fashion this year.

Please include 2 or 3 good photos of the nominee along with your nomination. Once you gather the needed information and type up their story, it’s easy to copy & paste the story in our nomination form, upload their pictures and submit your nomination.  CLICK HERE for a nomination form
