Beginning August 21st, two Montana State University Beef Specialists will be travelling across Northeastern Montana to discuss livestock management options during a drought. Doctors Rachel Endecott and Megan Van Emon will begin in Malta and then travel to Glasgow on August 21st, on the 22nd they will be in Wolf Point and Scobey, Plentywood and Sidney on the 23rd and Circle and Jordan on the 24th. Dr. Van Emon will discuss early weaning strategies, including cow reproduction and calf growth performance impacts. She will also describe various supplementation strategies with an overview of general supplement types that are available and how they can impact animal performance and forage conditions. Dr. Endecott will focus on water quality and harvest forage issues, including information on how to interpret water and forage nutrient analysis. She will also discuss impacts of high sulfate water and blue-green algae poisoning, and give an overview of nitrate toxicity in forages.
