MILES CITY, Mont. — Five eastern Montana residents have been appointed to serve three-year terms as members of the Bureau of Land Management’s Eastern Montana Resource Advisory Council. The citizen-based advisory group supports the BLM’s Billings and Miles City Field Offices by providing advice on public land issues. The appointments were made by Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell.

The newly appointed members of the Eastern Montana RAC are Steven A. Hanson of Red Lodge (Dispersed Recreation), Lucas C. Line of Miles City (Federal Grazing), Larry E. Pilster, of Alzada (Reappointment, Federal Grazing), Rita M. Harding of Billings (Reappointment, Environmental Organizations) and Douglas L. Kary of Billings (Reappointment, Elected Official).

“Resource Advisory Councils provide invaluable management advice and expertise to the BLM in Montana and the Dakotas,” said BLM State Director Jamie E. Connell. “I’m pleased to welcome our new members and want to thank them for their commitment and service. Our managers look forward to their ideas and input as we strive toward reaching the common goal of effective, multiple-use and sustained yield land management across our region.”

The Eastern Montana RAC covers a broad range of public lands and issues in 17 counties within the Miles City Field Office and eight counties under the Billings Field Office. The BLM has established 28 RACs across the West, where most BLM-managed land is located. Each RAC consists of 10 to 15 members with an interest in public land management, such as conservationists, outdoor recreationists, ranchers, tribal officials, state and local government officials, academics and others.
