Ensuring Wheat Producers Have Their Voices Heard in Farm Bill Negotiations

by

BILLINGS, MT (August 9, 2016) – Agriculture groups already have their eyes on the 2018 Farm Bill. It's been a very tough go for U.S. wheat producers the last few years and having safety nets included in the Farm Bill for times of low commodity prices is essential.

Currently, the National Association of Wheat Growers (NAWG) is working with the USDA to insure wheat producers have their voices heard in the Farm Bill negotiations through participation in a quick 15 minute survey that local farmers may receive in the mail or by email.  The survey is administered by the  Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) and will come out in the first two weeks of September.

Gordon Stoner President of NAWG and Outlook, MT farmer relayed the importance of these surveys to Northern Ag Network's Lane Nordlund.  Stoner also added that producers need to be in contact with their local FSA offices to be aware of Loan Deficiency Payments.
