Fall Delivered Calves Sell Strong on Northern Livestock Video Sale

by

The Northern Livestock Video Auction held their Early fall preview sale August 20th-21st. Trade was active on good demand for all class types.

Fall delivered calves saw mostly good demand, with good to very good demand seen for heavy weight calves coming early in the fall as feeders hope to hit an early marketing window. Value added consignments are from cattle that are all natural or non-hormone treated cattle (NHTC). These cattle sold mostly at a premium throughout the sale. Buyers were very  specific on what they gave premiums on. Most cattle had to have some sort of third party verification to seen any premium.

Russell Nemetz stopped by the sale and talked with Joe Goggins about some of the reasons for the strong market and if these prices are going to hold.

He says another factor driving demand for fall delivered calves is strong numbers from the restaurant sector indicating consumers are buying beef when they eat out.
