Farmer Plants 4-Miles of Sunflowers in Tribute to Wife

by

A Wisconsin country road has been turned into a sea of sunflowers, in memory of a local farmer's wife who passed away from cancer last year.

Before her death last November, Don Jaquish's wife Babbette was famous around the county for the beautiful sunflowers she planted on their Eau Claire farm.

His powerful tribute now takes up a 60-foot wide, 5-mile long strip of farmland where corn and soybeans once were, crossing five neighboring farms that agreed to open up their land to Jaquish for “whatever rent seemed fair,” KARE 11 reports.

They will be sold under the name “Babbette’s Seeds for Hope,” with a portion of the proceeds going towards cancer research, hospitals, and patient advocacy.

It took Jaquish a week this past June to plant the flowers along Wisconsin State Road 85, and they are now finally in bloom, painting the landscape a lovely yellow and green.
