The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has reported 12 cases of the H3N2V influenza virus – 11 occurring in people who attended county fairs in Indiana where swine were present. The Indiana State Fair sent home most hogs on Monday after six pigs in the 4-H show developed high fevers. Indiana State Veterinarian Bret Marsh says the decision is prudent in light of what has occurred the last several weeks at county fairs across the state. The CDC says there is no evidence the virus can be transmitted through properly handled pork – but hog futures have fallen by point-nine-percent.
