Harold Jensen of Baker passes away at 91

by

A personal note from Taylor Brown:

The Northern Ag Network lost a good friend this weekend.

And the science of livestock grazing and Range Management has lost a Champion.

On Saturday in Baker, at the age of 91, Harold Jensen went to meet his Maker.

Harold was raised on the family homestead just east of Baker, where he ranched his whole life, and where he and Lillian were married for 63 years.  He loved Hereford cattle, a good stand of Bluebunch Wheatgrass, and any kids that took an interest in either one.

I first became good friends with Harold Jensen when he was the local Host Committee Chairman for Montana Range Days when it was held in Baker on its 10th anniversary in 1987-88.

Following that event he insisted that we start a non-profit Educational Foundation for Range Days, and then his local Fallon County Range Committee put in the first $450 into the new permanent fund.  Today that fund has grown to over $140,000, and the interest off that endowment helps Montana Range Days every year.

Then, Harold and Lillian began to fund their own Range Days scholarship, and a few years ago, to make sure that scholarship would continue in perpetuity, they personally contributed $20,000. to endow it, making sure that the interest from that endowment will fund their scholarship long into the future.

Today several of us are going to write another memorial Check of our own, to send to Montana Range Days, and add to that fund a little more…just to help make sure nobody ever forgets what Harold Jensen stood for.

If you would care to join us in a Memorial Contribution to Harold Jensen, the address is:

Montana Range Days, Inc.
