House Committee to Investigate EPA’s Assessment of Glyphosate

by

Brownfield Ag News reports:

A House committee will investigate the EPA's withdrawal of an online report that said glyphosate likely does NOT cause cancer.

Texas Representative Lamar Smith, chair of the Science, Space and Technology committee, has requested documents and communications from EPA administrator Gina McCarthy that relate to the agency's risk assessment for glyphosate.

A week ago, the EPA posted what appeared to be a final risk assessment to its website and removed it a few days later saying it had “inadvertently” been posted.

Smith says “the EPA's backtracking on the finality of its own science review committee's report raises concerns” about the agency's willingness to provide a fair assessment.

Smith says sound science that is transparent “should always be the basis for EPA's decisions.”
