Legislature Increases Monitoring of Department of Livestock

by

On Thursday March 5th the Legislative Audit Committee voted to form a special three-member subcommittee to monitor the Montana Department of Livestock, and report the status of the Department to the other members of the Audit Committee.  The new sub-committee will serve for two years, and will make those reports at least twice each year in 2015 and 2016.

Audit Committee member Senator Eric Moore a rancher and cattle feeder from Miles City made the motion to form the new subcommittee.

Last year the Legislative Audit Committee performance audit found the Department of Livestock in violation of Montana law and the state Constitution, as reported in this story:

Since last year the Department has made several changes to address management and financial challenges, which continue to be a serious concern to the Legislature and to the livestock industry.
