by

The bison working group will reconvene in Great Falls on October 9.

10/2/2014 Addition:  Montana FWP has notified potential participants that the meeting will be held at the Holiday Inn in Great Falls.  The address is 1100 5th Street South.  The phone number is (406) 727-7200.  According to FWP's Lauri Hanauska-Brown, the meeting will begin at 9:30 and go as late as is needed.  CLICK HERE to see the agenda.

As the state of Montana continues to work towards a long term bison plan, the working group that has been put together to help form what that could look like will meet again in October.

During their July meeting, the group looked at several alternatives that could go forward for public comment through a draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).  Read those HERE along with a recap of that meeting.  Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks indicated that they would expand on those alternatives and possibly add more before bringing it before the working group this fall.

Governor Steve Bullock has said that, one way or the other, he wants a decision on the bison front.

The tentative schedule for complete of the EIS is as follows:

TENTATIVE SCHEDULE FOR COMPLETION OF THE PROGRAMMATIC STATEWIDE BISON EIS

1) Drafting the Alternatives: late summer/early fall 2014

2) Analysis of Alternatives: fall/early winter 2014

3) 90 day public comment period: winter 2014

4) Finalizing the EIS document: spring 2015

5) Decision Notice:  late spring/early summer 2015
