Montana Towns

by

Montana is made up of small towns dotted across a vast landscape.  Montana’s towns play a vital role in linking us to the outside world, offering centralized services to agriculture, such as rail connections, crop storage, and financial services like banks.

The water tower – a common feature of 20th-century town landscapes – dominates this winter view of Big Sandy, Montana, with grain elevators and the Bears Paw Mountains in the distance.

Big Sandy, Montana, circa 1920, photographer unidentified, MHS Photo Archives, catalog #PAc 2013-50 #0071
