MSU Extension Hosting Master Gardener Celebration in Great Falls

Montana State University (MSU) Extension will host the 2016 Master Gardener Celebration in Great Falls from September 29 through October 1, 2016.

 

The celebration will begin with registration on Thursday, September 29 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Great Falls. Later that evening, participants will be invited to a welcome dinner at the History Museum where the event will be catered by DiMitri’s. There will be a special presentation with Great Falls Commissioner Bill Bronson as the famous Charlie Russell. Other reenactors will be in attendance to bring to life famous Great Falls citizens.

 

An educational tour will be on September 30th with stops at the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center where participants will learn about native Montana plants and tour the center. The second stop will be at Groundworks Farm where participants will learn about sustainable food systems, press apple cider, and enjoy a lunch catered by Groundworks Farm. The last stop will be at Branch Brady’s home where participants will be able to ask gardening questions and tour the Brady’s beautiful landscaped yard. The awards ceremony will be held that evening beginning with a panel of local tree experts including Todd Szymanski with Great Falls Park and Recreation, Bruce Forde with Forde Nursery-Landscaping, and Steve Tilleraas with Tilleraas Landscape Nursery. Keynote speaker, Whitney Cranshaw will also present. Cranshaw is a renowned entomologist from Colorado State University and has authored numerous educational gardening and insect books. The evening will wrap up with recognition of the Outstanding Master Gardener.

 

The celebration will wrap up with educational seminars on herbs with Janice Driver, garden tool keeping with Toby Day, tree information with Richard Krott, hobby greenhouses with Connie Klingaman, water features with David Blanchard, and research conducted at the Western Agricultural Research Center with Zach Miller.   

 

Registration deadline is September 19, 2016 and the cost for the celebration is $95 per person.
