MSU Extension Hosting Webinar Series on Farm and Ranch Management Skills

by Colter Brown

Montana State University Extension will host a webinar series to offer farm and ranch women the opportunity to be part of Annie’s Project, a national program focused on management skills.

The series will be offered virtually each Monday evening from 6 to 8:30 p.m. from Nov. 8 to Dec. 13.

The sessions will feature Jolene Brown, a farmer, author and professional speaker who will share business management and estate planning information throughout the series. She said her goal is to help families build a legacy and to use her experiences and tools to help grow, fix and transition their businesses.

“I’ve made it my life’s mission to help thousands of farmers, growers and ranchers share their stories with the wider world,” said Brown, who was born and raised on a farm.

Participants will learn about risk assessment; business planning; financial statements; family and liability insurance; government farm programs; legal concerns; retirement and transition; and personal development. The event also provides farm and ranch women an opportunity to network with others and share experiences.

State and national speakers include Jolene Brown, Hertha Lund, Bruce Glennie, Whitney Tatafu, and others from agriculture related organizations. There will be plenty of time for questions, sharing, reacting and connecting with presenters and fellow participants.

Annie’s Project is a discussion-based educational program dedicated to strengthening women’s roles in modern farm and ranch enterprises. It was launched in 2003 by Illinois Extension educator Ruth Hambleton as a tribute to her mother, Annette Kohlhagen Fleck. Fleck grew up in Illinois, married a farmer and spent her life learning how to be a businessperson. The program is based on the lessons Fleck learned.

The program is open to everyone. The registration fee per person is $50, which includes workshop materials and activity expenses. For more information on class registration or payment, contact Katrin Finch at or 406-454-6980 or Roubie Younkin at or 406-228-6241
