Nebraska on Track to be #1 Cattle Feeding State

Those who believe in cause and effect in the cattle business in Nebraska could make a connection between recent events in Denver and at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

 

Just days after three of the four latest inductions into the Cattle Feeders Hall of Fame went to Nebraskans, livestock analysts on UNL’s East Campus said Nebraska appears to be on its way to displacing Texas as the nation’s leading cattle-feeding state.

 

“If the current five-year trend continues for the next five to seven years, Nebraska will lead the U.S. in number of cattle on feed,” a UNL research team said in a 50-page report that explores the state’s role in the livestock industry.

 

As the wording implies, the eventual effect of shifting cattle trends in Texas, Nebraska and Kansas, the big three of beef, isn't a done deal.

 

But the Nebraska foundation Hall of Famers Louis Dinklage, Leo O. Timmerman and Harry Knobbe helped build is a solid base for what’s ahead, Cuming County cattleman Tom Feller said.
