Neutral On-Feed Report Does Little to Markets

by

The USDA released their August cattle on feed report this past Friday.  The report was seen as neutral with a placement number that was a touch lower than expected (-10{6b02cb02835b82b7f756ddf6717aaab7139b350de274ea97f5b53eb230607107} from August 2011) being offset by a lower than expected marketing number.  John Harrington, a DTN Livestock Analyst, notes that it’s important to keep in mind that last month’s placement is compared with record-large activity reported in July of 2011 when the severe threat of drought forced so many stocker cattle in to feedlots.  Overall, the number of cattle on feed here in the U.S. was up 1{6b02cb02835b82b7f756ddf6717aaab7139b350de274ea97f5b53eb230607107}.
