Northern Ag Network spoke with Montana’s State Veterinarian, Dr. Marty Zaluski, and he let us know that there will soon be a comment period opening that’ll relate to brucellosis testing in the states designated surveillance area (DSA).
While still keeping the slaughter test, Dr. Zaluski explained that they are now suggesting testing all breeding cattle in the DSA.The rule will officially be open for public comment once it is published with the Secretary of State. That is expected to happen within the next week. Dr. Zaluski also cited changes in the federal level that may limit the number of slaughter tests as a reason to test more on the ground.
