Trade Show Exhibitor Just Back From Argentina
Scott Keith with the Wyoming Business Council is just back home from a trade mission promoting Wyoming cattle genetics to Argentina. This week the Northern Ag Network's Russell Nemetz stopped by his booth for a visit.

To help both young and old perfect the art of show fitting. This week the NILE offered a Fitting Clinic featuring Bruce Bauman with Stock Show University. The Northern Ag Network's Russell Nemetz stopped by the MetraPark and talked with Bruce about the Fitting Demo.
Western Expo
If the NILE Western Expo had a tagline, perhaps it would be “101 Ways to Nurture Your Inner (and Outer) Cowboy.” This year the Western Expo, which runs from Wednesday, October 17 through Saturday, October 20, includes not only a trade show but many other events to stoke the western spirit as well.
The NILE trade shows have always featured exhibitors with authentic western art or jewelry, saddles, tack, and western wear as well as livestock equipment, feed and supplements, and cattle genetic based companies. “This year we are sold out,” says NILE General Manger, Justin Mills “that hasn't always been the case, but this year we have had a lot of interest with vendors coming into the NILE.”
Several years ago, the NILE began adding other events in association with the NILE trade shows to complete the Western Expo. Each day, free entertainment including western music, poetry, bluegrass music, and Dutch Oven Cooking will be featured. In addition, a talented line-up of clinicians will give a variety of educational demonstrations on Friday and Saturday of The NILE in the Ford Super Duty Arena of the Montana Pavilion. Two sessions will be presented by each clinician daily. Demonstrations start at 10 a.m. and run until 6 p.m. on October 19 and 20.
Ed and David Fryer along with Montana Beef Quality Assurance program will show tips and tricks for making a day of working cattle just a little easier through their demonstrations on Low Stress Cattle Handling. Tim Feddes of Manhattan, Montana who has been using stock dogs on his family's Hereford ranch for years will be sharing how stock dogs can make a difference in life on the ranch for working livestock. Tim will show his dogs work a group of sheep live.
Horse enthusiasts and trainers alike who have been amazed by equine clinicians like Chris Cox, Pat Parelli, Clinton Anderson and Dennis Reis will also enjoy Jacque Richey's Natural Horsemanship and equine choreography expertise. Jacque, who offers lessons at Standing Rock Ranch in Billings, along with her students, will perform demonstrations to music without aids.
Finally, the Northern Range Ranch Roping Finals will take place on Saturday, October 20 in the Buckaroo Businesses Arena. Come a day early and catch a qualifying ranch roping event for those working to make it to the finals the next day.
Ranch Rodeo
Brightly colored silk wild rags, brown leather chinks and chaps, horsehair mecates and fifty foot lariat ropes…the Ranch Rodeo Finals must be back in town. At the NILE Ranch Rodeo, true working ranch cowboys temporarily leave the ranch behind and head into town to compete in a team format amongst their peers. The Northern International Livestock Exposition (NILE) invites fans to attend the fifth annual NILE Ranch Rodeo Finals held Wednesday, October 17 at 7 p.m. in the Rimrock Auto Arena at Metra Park
This rodeo will feature twelve teams of ranch cowboys from Montana and surrounding states demonstrating the truest form of daily working ranch activities. Events in the rodeo will include bronc riding, team penning, team branding, team doctoring, and wild cow milking. Teams compete at NILE sanctioned qualifying rodeos throughout the year for a chance to compete at the NILE Championship Ranch Rodeo Finals.
A payout of over $8,000 will be awarded in money and prizes to the top three teams with the winning team taking home the coveted NILE “Boot Trophy.” The night's Top Hand will receive a custom trophy saddle and a pair of silver spurs will be awarded to the Top Horse. New this year, the winning ranch rodeo team will earn a spot at the Working Ranch Cowboys Association Finals (WRCA) in Amarillo, TX next June, where they will have the opportunity to compete against the top ranch rodeo teams in the nation for thousands of dollars in prize money.

Gold Buckle Horse Sales
The consignments for this year's NILE Gold Buckle Horse Sales are of the highest quality ever seen. This year's sale brings together the region's most reputable breeders and bloodlines together for two sales. First will be the NILE Gold Buckle Weanling/Yearling Sale presented by Copper Spring Ranch on Friday, October 19 at 1:00 pm in the Rimrock Auto Arena at MetraPark. Then on Saturday, October 20 at 1:00 pm will be the NILE Gold Buckle Performance Horse Sale presented by First Interstate Bank. The preview to be held at 8:00 am that morning. Both sales will also be webcasted offering “live bidding” at www.thenile.org.
In addition to the sales will be the Horse Sale Futurities presented by Pfizer Animal Health. The first futurity will be the Midnight Corona Barrel Racing Futurity that will be a 1:00 pm. Then Friday morning the Yearling Futurity will be held at 8:00 am, followed by the Snaffle Bit Futurity. Finally, the 3-Year-Old Futurity will be held on Saturday morning prior to the Performance Horse Sale. Horses sold through the NILE Sales are eligible to compete in all futurities. Additionally, horses from “nominated stallions” are eligible to compete in the Barrel Racing Futurity and the 3-Year-Old Futurity. The four futurities have a combined total payout of over $10,000. Western Parade
This year the Northern International Livestock Exposition will host the 45th Annual NILE Stock Show & Rodeo October 17-20 at MetraPark. As part of the celebration the NILE Lou Taubert Ranch Outfitters Cattle Drive & Parade will will be held on Saturday, October 20 at 10:00 am.
“It something we are extremely excited about and have been wanting to do for several years,” says Justin Mills, NILE General Manager. The parade will feature a Cattle Drive made up of fifty head of steers complete with a trail boss, outriders, chuck wagon, and bunk wagon. “We've been working with Chas Weldon of the Yellowstone County Museum in creating an authentic Cattle Drive as part of the parade,” says Mills. “This is part of Billings's heritage and we are proud to provide this kind of opportunity in which we can honor our past.”
The parade will be a motor-less parade, which means all entries will riding horses or other ride-able animals, in horse drawn wagons, or walking. It will follow the normal parade route through downtown Billings, however the Cattle Drive will continue on and end at MetraPark.
Other activities that will take place that day will be a Community Chuck Wagon Barbecue in the Courtyard at MetraPark that will be held from 11:45-1:30.
