NILE Foundation Awards Bigger & Better Scholarships for 2015

Billings, Mont. – The NILE Foundation is proud to announce the Scholarship winners for the 2015-2016 academic year. This year the NILE Foundation increased the dollar amounts from $500 to $1,000 for this year's outstanding students. 15 new recipients were awarded scholarships and five rolling scholarships were renewed.

 

“Through the efforts of the NILE Foundation and NILE Organization the scholarship amounts have increased from $500 to $1,000 to help support this year's scholarship winners,” says Al McCormick, NILE Scholarship Committee Chairman.

 

Since 1990 the NILE and NILE Foundation awarded over $550,000 in scholarships to deserving youth active in 4-H, FFA, and their communities. They excelled in the classroom while participating in NILE events.

 

Similar to 2014, scholarships were awarded on three levels:

-A one-time scholarship awarded to graduating high school seniors that will continue their education at a college or vocational school.

 

-The second level of scholarships offered is also a one-time grant, for students already enrolled in college or a vo-tech school.

 

-The third level offers the largest scholarship amount is a rolling scholarship. The rolling scholarships is offered to a select group of high school seniors who may renew the scholarship annually for up to four years of their secondary education. Recipients for the 2015 rolling scholarships were chosen from the pool of applicants that are current seniors in High School.

 

Seven one-time scholarships have been awarded to the following seniors in high school in the amount of $1,000:

Elizabeth Armstrong is the daughter of Brad & Renee Armstrong of Roundup, MT. She is the current Valedictorian at Roundup High School, where she will graduate in May. Elizabeth plans to attend MSU Bozeman or Oklahoma Christian Univ., and study Computer Engineering.

 


Meghan Brence plans to attend Montana State University in Bozeman, MT to major in Finanial Engineering and minor in Ag Economics. This May she will graduate from Custer Co. High School. Meghan is the daughter of Larry & Shannon Brence of Miles City, MT.

 

Beau Bromenshenk of Billings, MT is the son of Paul & Brenda Bromenshenk. After graduation from Billings West High School he plans to attend MSU-Northern in Havre, MT to obtain a degree in Diesel Technology. He hopes to work as a Diesel Mechanic and return to the family farm after college.

 

 

Landra Lucas is a soon-to-be graduate of Denton High School. She is the daughter of Lisa & the late Larry Lucas of Lewistown, MT. Her post high school plans include attending MSU-Northern in Havre, MT to study Agricultural Technology. She hopes to become a rancher or manage a ranch someday after college.

 

 

Laina Raisler is the daughter of John & Lori Raisler of Kinsey, MT. Currently, Laina is a senior at Custer Co. High School in Miles City, MT where she will graduate in May. After graduation, she plans to attend Montana State University in Bozeman, MT to pursue a degree in Agricultural Marketing.

 

 

Cody Shick plans to attend Montana State University in Bozeman, MT to major in Agricultural Business with future plans of becoming an Ag Consultant/Ag Sales. Cody is a soon-to-be graduate of Laurel High School. He is the son of Chad & Susan Shick of Laurel, MT.

 

Jordyn Wagner of Billings, MT is the daughter of Darryl & Kari Wagner. She is a soon-to-be graduate of Billings Senior High School that plans on obtaining a degree in Elementary Education at Rocky Mountain College in Billings, MT. Her future goals include working with students that struggle in school.

 

 

Three high school seniors have been awarded rolling scholarships in the amount of $1,000 annually for up to four years. They are:

 

Cody Boyce, a Valedictorian and soon-to-be graduate of Fergus High School is the daughter of Bill & Kim Boyce of Lewistown, MT. Cody plans to attend Montana State University in Bozeman, MT to pursue a degree in Animal Science and then later transfer to Vet School.

 

 

Cierra Lamey plans to attend Montana Tech in Butte, MT to obtain a degree in Biology aftergraduation from Beaverhead Co. High School in Dillon, MT. This Valedictorian is the daughter of Cory & Kari Lamey of Wise River, MT. Her future plans include applying for Vet School and becoming a practicing Veterinarian.

 

Jayelyn Ruckman is the daughter of Bruce & Janae Ruckman of Fairfield, MT. Jayelyn plans to attend Casper College in Casper, WY to major in General Agriculture before deciding on Ag Business or Ag Communications. While she studies in Casper, she will compete on the livestock judging team.

 

 

 

Students selected as rolling scholarship recipients must remain in good standing by maintaining a 3.0 cumulative GPA as a full-time student in college. These recipients must also continue involvement in NILE, while participating in college organizations and activities.

 

The following students of the class of 2014 have met these requirements and will be rewarded with their second installment of rolling scholarship in the amount of $1,000.

 

Rachael Buzanowski, native of Pompey's Pillar, MT, is a freshman at Butler Community College in El Dorado, Kansas majoring in Animal Science. She plans on becoming an Agricultural Lawyer after college. Buzanowski is the daughter of Bernie and Stacie Buzanowski.

 

Jaclyn Ketchum daughter of Bruce and Tena Ketchum of Plevna, MT. Currently, Jaclyn is attending Kansas State University studying Animal Science – Biotechnology/Bioscience. After college, she plans become an Animal Scientist and research the reproductive system of cattle. 

 

 

Amanda Williams is wrapping up her freshman year at Montana State University where she is majoring in Animal Science & Natural Resources – Rangeland Ecology. Amanda is the daughter of Kent and Christine Williams of Miles City, MT. At the conclusion of college she sees herself working as a County Extension Agent.

 

 

The following students of the Class of 2013 have also met these requirements and will be rewarded with their third installment of rolling scholarship in the amount of $1,000.

 

Bobby Dorvall is the daughter of Link and Holly Dorvall of Fromberg, Montana. Bobby is currently wrapping up her time at Northwest College in Powell, WY and plans on transferring to the University of Wyoming this fall to complete her college career. Pursuing an Agricultural Business degree, Dorvall plans to work as a Crop Advisor or Farm & Ranch Real Estate Appraiser.

 

Kensey Mikklesen is currently attending Montana State University Bozeman, Montana. She is majoring in Exercise Science with a minor in Ag Business with plans to practice as a Physical Therapist and raise various breeds of cattle after completing her higher education. Mikkelsen's parents are Rod and Traci Mikkelsen of Hobson, Montana.

 

 

 

The Joe Fouts Memorial 4-H and FFA Scholarships were established to memorialize the passion for these organizations that Joe Fouts so devoutly showed, awarding youth active in 4-H and FFA programs in two $500 scholarships, one to each organization.

 

Fouts actively participated as a 4-H and FFA member. His passion passed to his children who also participated in 4-H and FFA. Fouts continued working with 4-H and FFA youth through his many years at Western Ranch Supply.

 

“This year's recipients are both long time 4-H and FFA members. This scholarship was put forth in the memory of Joe, and the scholarship committee believed that these recipients fit the parameters of the scholarship to the best of their ability,” said McCormick.

 

ShayLe Hildebrand has been a member of the Rock Creek Ranchers 4-H Club for 10 years. She is the daughter of Howard & Sheila Hildebrand of Joliet. After graduation from Joliet High School, ShayLe plans to attend Northwest College in Powell, WY and study Sociology.

 

 

 

Connor Madsen has been a member of the Wheatland FFA for 3 years. This soon-to-be Wheatland High School graduate plans to attend either Doane College or the University of Wyoming to pursue a degree in Veterinary Medicine. Connor is the son of Alan & Stephani Madsen of Wheatland, WY.

 

 

 

The following students are pursuing degrees in higher education and each has been awarded a $1,000 scholarship.

 

Jessica Hafer is currently attending Washington State University in Pullman, WA majoring in Animal Management. After college she plans on focusing on Beef Production. Jessica is the daughter of Wendy Hafer and the late Richard Hafer of Emigrant, MT.

 

 

Colby Hales is a native of Laramie, WY, and is the son of Myron & Monica Hales. Currently, Colby is attending Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO pursuing a degree in Agriculture Education, with hopes of becoming an Agriculture Education teacher and FFA Advisor.

 

Sierra Reyher is the daughter of Mark & Jeanne Reyher of Belgrade, MT. At the present time, Sierra is studying Juris Doctorate at the University Of Montana – School Of Law. Her future plans include practicing Agricultural and Real Estate Law.

 

 

“The future goals of tomorrow's leaders are very adaptive to the new agricultural technologies, and this year's class demonstrated the abilities to meet today's challenges in agriculture,” commented McCormick.

 

 

The NILE Foundation was established in 2009 as a supporting arm of the NILE organization, which is dedicated to the promotion of livestock, agriculture education and respect for the western culture.


Each year the NILE and NILE Foundation touch the lives of nearly 10,000 youth through the many programs, events, “live” animal scholarships, and college scholarships. Together, these organizations provide over $75,000 in cash and live animal scholarships annually.
