NILE Ranch Rodeo Circuit in Full Swing

With a tenth rodeo added, there are eight rodeos remaining for the 2014 NILE Ranch Rodeo circuit.

The following is a press release from the NILE:

Billings, Mont. – A tenth rodeo has been added to the 2014 NILE Ranch Rodeo Circuit of sanctioned rodeos.  The Ingomar Ranch Rodeo is slated for Sunday, August 31 at the Ingomar rodeo arena and will begin at 10 am.  It will be held in conjunction with a Big Loop Roping on August 30.

There are eight rodeos left in the NILE sanctioned Ranch Rodeo circuit for 2014, which include:

  • Friday, July 18 the Fourth Annual Forsyth Ranch Rodeo at the Rosebud-Treasure County Fairgrounds in Forsyth, Montana with a 7 pm performance. 
  • Saturday, July 19, cowboys and spectators have their choice of two ranch rodeos on the western side of Montana.  The Marias Fair Ranch Rodeo in Shelby begins at noon. The Bozeman Roundup Ranch Rodeo is held at 6:30 pm at the Gallatin County Fairgrounds-Anderson Outdoor Arena.
  • Saturday, August 2 is the Big Sky Roundup Ranch Rodeo and Glasgow Rodeo Committee Old Mill Ranch Rodeo.  Held during the Montana State Fair in Great Falls, Montana, the 2nd Annual Big Sky Roundup Ranch Rodeo begins at 11 am.  The Glasgow Rodeo Committee Old Mill Ranch Rodeo will begin with a calcutta at 4 pm followed by ranch rodeo performance.
  • Saturday, August 16 is the 2014 Wyoming State Finals Ranch Rodeo at 1 pm in the Ford Grandstand Arena on the Wyoming State Fairgrounds in Douglas, Wyoming.
  • Sunday, August 31 is the date final date to qualify for the NILE Ranch Rodeo Finals. The PCS Club Ranch Rodeo begins at 2 pm in the Traffton Arena in Malta, Montana. The Ingomar Ranch Rodeo will start at 10 am at the rodeo arena in Ingomar, Montana.

For the first time in its 8-year history, the Custer Ranch Rodeo awarded first place to a local team at this year's event, held June 21 in Custer. Toby Abel of Custer, Marcey and Brian Eskew of Mussellshell, and JT Robbins of Custer were members on the team that earned top honors after competing in branding, doctoring, wild cow milking, team penning, ranch bronc riding, and ranch gal events.

 

Also at the awards ceremony, Sarah Verhelst of Pryor was named top cowgirl; Joe Watson of Hysham was named top cowboy; and Pete Olsen of Molt received the top horse award.

 

Two events in addition to the regular ranch rodeo were part of the annual weekend held at, and benefitting, the Custer Rodeo Club Arena.  The first-ever Short Ranch Rodeo, for teams of cowhands under 15 years old, took place just before the regular ranch rodeo.  Four capable youngsters from Sand Springs took the prize:  Wyatt Phipps, Kary Phipps, Sam Phipps, and Cassidy Dutton.  And the morning after the ranch rodeo, husband-wife teams competed in the first-ever Marital Bliss Muley Ropin'.  Stacey & Tiffany Ogren of Hysham took first place in that event.

The Neal Hermanson Memorial Ranch Rodeo saw a four-time NILE qualifying team clinch the top spot on June 21. The winning team was the Genex Team who has a longstanding record of ranch rodeo success locally and at NILE: 2011- NILE Winner and NHMRR high score bronc ride, 2012- 2nd place team at the NILE and high score bronc ride at NHMRR, 2013- first place at NHMRR and NILE, also competed at Working Ranch Cowboy's Association World Finals in Amarillo, Texas.

 

In a tight race, Challenger Industries finished 2nd in the Neal Hermanson Memorial Ranch Rodeo, just four points behind first place. Earl's Boys came in third place with 28 points while US Ranch/Reverse E V Horses fell by one point to a fourth place finish.

 

Solly Danks of the Sorenson Ranch team was the Top Hand, winning Lonnie Shipman Spurs while Top Horse award went to Robert Sperry of the Genex team.  Sperry was given a Klempel Saddlery breast collar.

The winners of the 2014 Custer Ranch Rodeo — Abel, Robbins, and the Eskews — will now advance to the NILE Championship Ranch Rodeo held in Billings in October.  This winning team at Custer was sponsored by a long-time supporter of the Custer Ranch Rodeo, the Montana Cattlemen's Association. 

 

The teams represent the sanctioned rodeo that they took the top place in and participate in the NILE Ranch Rodeo Finals as the very best teams in the region who embody real working ranches.

The winning team at the NILE Ranch Rodeo Finals has the opportunity to compete at the Working Ranch Cowboys Association's World Finals held in November in Amarillo, TX.

The NILE believes in Ranch Rodeos because they exemplify the truest form of our heritage seen only on a working ranch.  We encourage you to come out and take in one of these upcoming Ranch Rodeos and join us for the grand finale in October!
