No Restrictions on North Dakota Agriculture!

by

The North Dakota Farm Bureau is promoting an amendment to its state constitution that says no one may restrict modern farming and ranching practices.

The amendment has two sentences. The first states “The right of farmers and ranchers to engage in modern farming and ranching practices shall be forever guaranteed in this state.”

The second sentence reads: “No law shall be enacted which abridges the right of farmers and ranchers to employ agricultural technology, modern livestock production and ranching practices.”

I spoke with the President of the North Dakota Farm Bureau, Eric Aasmundstad, last week and ask if he could tell me more about the idea behind this state constitutional amendment.

The North Dakota Farm Bureau intends to circulate an initiative petition to put the constitutional amendment on the North Dakota state ballot next year.

Click here to hear Eric talk about the initiative petition.

The petitions do have to be carried by official petition carriers and signed in the presence of those carriers.  The grand kick off for this petition will start at the Big Iron Farm Show in West Fargo North Dakota, September 13th – 15th. For more information to get your name on this petition or if you want to be a petition carrier you can contact the North Dakota Farm Bureau at there website at www.ndfb.org.
