The Peterson Farm Brothers show farming cool, help raise money for Wyoming 4-H

They rock, rap and bale. They produce corn, cattle and videos.

The Peterson Farm Brothers – Greg, Nathan and Kendall – have gone viral on YouTube.

Now the Kansas brothers are coming to Laramie.

The Albany County 4-H Foundation is presenting the Peterson Farm Brothers at the Cliff and Martha Hansen Teaching Arena, 460 Highway 230, at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, to raise money for scholarships and support 4-H teams traveling to state and national competition. Tickets can be purchased at the Albany County office of the University of Wyoming Extension, at the door or online at http://bit.ly/petersonbrothers/

The Peterson brothers’ music videos, shot primarily on their family’s thousand-acre farm near Assaria, Kan., are parodies of popular songs that provide first-hand perspectives on modern agricultural production.

According to their website, www.petersonfarmbros.com, their video “I’m Farming and I Grow It,” a parody of the song “I’m Sexy and I Know It” by LMFAO, received more than 5 million views in more than 200 countries in two weeks in 2012.

It is our goal to educate the general public on where their food comes from and what a real Midwest family farm looks like!” they state. They celebrate the “end-products” of the farm in supermarket and restaurant scenes.

Albany County 4-H Foundation board member Tanya Madden related the popularity of the Peterson Farm Brothers videos to the growing farm-to-fork movement.

“We want to share their message,” she said. 4-H is the youth development program of the Cooperative Extension System of land-grant universities. The 4-H organization is more than 100 years old, Madden said.

“4-H is farm production, food and so much more,” she noted. “We have programs in rocketry, robotics, electricity, cats and dogs. If a youth is interested in something we don’t offer, he or she can still be involved in a club.”

4-H serves youths ages 8-18. More than 8,000 youths and 3,000 adults are involved in the Wyoming program.

Fifth-generation farmers Greg, 24, Nathan, 21, and Kendal, 18, consider social media vital to their agricultural business. They regularly post videos on their YouTube channel (ThePetersonFarmBros) and farming updates on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

“Since we began producing content, we have continued to realize a need to inform people about what we do in farming and in agriculture as a whole,” according to their website.
