SDSU Extension is hosting an artificial insemination (AI) school on the campus of South Dakota State University on January 17-19 at the Animal Science Complex.

 

The cost for these schools will be $400 per participant and will cover all materials as well as one meal each day.

 

Enrollment is limited to 20 participants. These schools usually fill up quickly, so call or e-mail soon to reserve your seat.

The coordinator will provide instructions for payment after the registration is confirmed. There will also be a waiting list in case of cancellations.


School agenda

 

School will begin with classroom work in the Animal Science Complex located at the northeast corner of the intersection of Medary Avenue and North Campus Drive on the SDSU campus.

 

The schedule for each school will be as follows:


Day 1          

12:30 p.m. registration and Pre-survey

1 p.m.  Introduction, Cow anatomy, heat cycle and A-I technique, Heat Detection Process, A-I synchronization protocols/emerging A-I technologies, Equipment and Semen handling, Practice on semen handling/practice on cow reproductive tracts


Day 2

8:30 a.m. Start gathering cows

9 – 11:30 a.m. Practice A-I session

11:30 – Noon Clean-up

Noon – 1 p.m. Lunch

Afternoon: Bull selection/EPD's, ratios, accuracy's, Fertility & Management,


Day 3

8:30 a.m. Start gathering cows

9 – 11:30 a.m. Practice A-I session

11:30 – Noon Clean-up

Noon – 1 p.m. Lunch

Afternoon: Reproductive Management/Nutrition Considerations, Managing Cows for Optimum Reproduction Efficiency.
