Senator Conrad Submits “Optional Farm Bill”

by

North Dakota Senator Kent Conrad has submitted to the Congressional Budget Office for scoring his new working farm bill. According to Conrad – it borrows from some of the concepts that have worked well in the past. However – some streamlining, simplifying and improving the efficiency of these programs can be expected. Conrad says once the scores are back – they will be able to assess what we can afford.

As for the Super Committee – Conrad is optimistic. Time is limited – only four months left before they must report – but Conrad believes the committee will find the complexity of what they’re dealing with will force them to use a lot of the work that’s already been done.

The super committee includes co-chairs Senator Patty Murray of Washington and Representative Jeb Hensarling of Texas. Appointments also include Michigan Representatives Dave Camp and Fred Upton, Senator Jon Kyl of Arizona, Senator Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania, Senator Rob Portman of Ohio, Senator Max Baucus of Montana and Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts.
