Small Grain Harvest Nears Completion

Some chilly fall temperatures were reported across the region as we look to the Crop Progress Reports for the last week.  According to the National Ag Statistics Service, those freezing temps have hampered the harvest and decreased the quality of some spring crops in areas across the state.  The sugarbeet harvest is in full swing and was halfway complete as of Sunday with excellent harvesting conditions being reported.  Winter wheat is right on schedule with 90{4d08edaf359bc2115b18a651716ebd427a137946ddca2143fa23b3ea721061e4} of the crop planted.  The spring wheat and barley harvests are both 95{4d08edaf359bc2115b18a651716ebd427a137946ddca2143fa23b3ea721061e4} complete and the 88{4d08edaf359bc2115b18a651716ebd427a137946ddca2143fa23b3ea721061e4} of the corn for silage has been harvested.

In Wyoming, sugarbeet harvest was aided this past week by cooler temperatures than the week before.  The winter wheat emergence also received welcome weather in the form of scattered showers.  82{4d08edaf359bc2115b18a651716ebd427a137946ddca2143fa23b3ea721061e4} of the winter wheat has emerged, and 87{4d08edaf359bc2115b18a651716ebd427a137946ddca2143fa23b3ea721061e4} of silage corn  and 47{4d08edaf359bc2115b18a651716ebd427a137946ddca2143fa23b3ea721061e4} of sugarbeets have been harvested.

South Dakota saw dry weather this past week and some reports are saying that the winter wheat could use some moisture.  That winter wheat is now 95{4d08edaf359bc2115b18a651716ebd427a137946ddca2143fa23b3ea721061e4} seeded.

North Dakota producers made excellent harvest progress due to ideal weather conditions.  97{4d08edaf359bc2115b18a651716ebd427a137946ddca2143fa23b3ea721061e4} of the corn for silage has been chopped and 95{4d08edaf359bc2115b18a651716ebd427a137946ddca2143fa23b3ea721061e4} of the sugarbeets have been lifted.
