Spring Seeding Underway in North Dakota

by

The following article, from the NAFB News Service, was submitted by Al Gustin of KFYR and KBMR in Bismarck, North Dakota.

Spring seeding is already underway in North Dakota thanks to unseasonably warm temperatures and a lack of snow.

Byron Richard, who farms in western North Dakota, started seeding last week.

The grain markets are starting to pay attention to the early fieldwork, according to Frayne Olson, Crops Marketing Economist at North Dakota State University.

Olson says the general mentality is the earlier you plant, the better the yield potential.  However that’s not always the way it turns out.
