Tragedy Strikes Shelby, MT Family; Support Pours in From Ag Community and More

by Andy Schwab

Montana is rallying around an ag family affected by tragedy.

Last Friday around 7:25 p.m., the Flesch family of Shelby suffered a horrible loss while delivering bulls in Nebraska. Nanna, Preslee, Jagger and Lennon Flesch were involved in a head on accident with another pickup and trailer. Nanna Flesch, 42, unfortunately did not survive the accident. Ruth Smathers, 67, of Lost Springs, Wyoming, was also pronounced dead at the scene, after her pickup and loaded livestock trailer were involved in the accident.

The three Flesch children all sustained serious injuries and were transported to different hospitals in different states. As of Monday, Preslee and Jagger have been released from the hospital and Lennon may be released tomorrow (March 30th). Nanna Flesch was a pillar in the tight knit community of Shelby and will be missed greatly.

Aside from the devastation of losing their beloved mom and wife, Jeff and his family have a long difficult journey to endure with travel, medical and funeral expenses. There will be a benefit auction online with Angus Live May 5-6. Donations are being accepted to help raise funds for the family and if anyone is interested in donating, contact Jena or Jordyn Wagner at 406-670-9618.

There is also a go fund me set up and a bank account for direct donations at Independence Bank in Conrad. Those who wish to help is this aspect can make checks payable to Flesch Family Benefit and mail them to Independence Bank, P.O. Box 778, Conrad, MT 59425.
