Trich Confirmed in SE South Dakota

by

The following is an article from the Associated Press:

The South Dakota Animal Industry Board is advising ranchers in the Gregory County area to have their animals checked, after a herd was found to be infected with a venereal disease that causes abortions.

State Veterinarian Dustin Oedekoven tells the Argus Leader newspaper that it was the sixth confirmed case of bovine trichomoniasis since last summer. He says the exact number of infected cows hasn’t been determined.

The disease is more prevalent in herds west of the Missouri River. Gregory County is in the southeast part of the state.

Oedekoven says the disease is untreatable but carries no human health risk.
