Rep. Denny Rehberg came to Hamilton on Tuesday hoping to hear people’s thoughts on the wolf issue.
He got an earful.
The congressman billed the listening session – one of three he’s hosting this week – as an opportunity for people to talk about the impact of this summer’s court decision to relist the gray wolf.
Last week, Rehberg began circulating a draft bill that would remove Endangered Species Act protection for wolves in Montana and Idaho and give the states sole jurisdiction to manage the predator.
Rehberg told the crowd gathered in Hamilton High’s Performing Arts Center that he wants to bring “common sense” back into the wolf issue.
“We wouldn’t have to shoot, shovel and shut up if it was working,” Rehberg said.
