According to the Wyoming Bureau of Land Management, the Red Desert wild horse gather is well underway with 580 horses gathered thus far and 178 returned back to the home range. Reports are that the Divide Basin gather is set to begin this week.
In addition to removing horses from the range to maintain the BLM’s “appropriate management level,” the gathers also provide the opportunity to treat mares with the fertility control drug PZP to decrease reproduction rates.
