CASPER, Wyo. (AP) — Wyoming counties could prohibit people from feeding wildlife if a proposed bill passes during the state's 2016 legislative session.
The Casper Star-Tribune reports that the legislature's Joint Travel, Recreation, Wildlife and Cultural Resources Interim Committee decided Monday to sponsor the bill.
A dozen Wyoming cities have already banned feeding wildlife, but state law doesn't let counties pass such rules.
Animals tend to congregate where they're fed, and some people are concerned about predators or animals munching on their gardens. Pets and people have also been trampled by aggressive deer.
The bill includes an exemption for agricultural workers, but Bob Wharff of Wyoming Sporstmen for Fish and Wildlife says that's unfair because many ranchers are also hunting outfitters.
He says the exemption could let them draw animals to improve their business.
