Wyoming Farm Bureau 96th Annual Meeting Nov. 12-14 in Cody

“Agriculture—Creating the Land of Milk and Honey” is the theme for the 96th Annual Meeting of the Wyoming Farm Bureau Federation (WyFB).  The meeting will be Nov. 12-14, 2015 at the Holiday Inn in Cody.

Policy discussions are the main purpose of the meeting and guide the work of the organization.  According to Ken Hamilton, WyFB Executive Vice President, resolutions cover a broad range of topics including management of prairie dogs, shifting education funds to support senior citizens and supporting increased pesticide registration fees to be used for pesticide education.

Farm Bureau’s grassroots action begins at the county level when members discuss issues important to agriculture. Resolutions must be passed at both the county and district level before being considered by voting delegates at the state annual meeting.  Farm Bureau members will get to work in “the Land of Milk and Honey” starting with committee meetings Nov. 12 to continue the grassroots policy development process.

Speakers and events

In addition to policy discussions, members will also hear updates on a variety of issues.  A “Mix and Mingle” with Wyoming Governor Matt Mead will be held Thursday, Nov. 12 at 10:30 a.m.

The featured speakers from the American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) will be Don Parrish, Senior Director, Regulatory Regulations, and John Anderson, Deputy Chief Economist.  Parrish will provide an update on Waters of the United States (WOTUS).  Anderson will talk about agriculture trade and the recently approved Trans-Pacific Partnership trade agreement.

Young Farmer and Rancher (YF&R) events will also showcase some of the many opportunities available for our younger leaders in the agricultural community of Farm Bureau.  Among the YF&R events, Northwest College is hosting the YF&R Collegiate Discussion Meet on Thursday evening, Nov. 12.

Elections, awards, and a “Harvest for All” food drive round out the meeting events.

Agenda and registration

The meeting agenda is at www.wyfb.org.   Pre-registration is requested by Nov. 2, 2015, but not required for attendance.  Reservations made after this date will be honored based on availability.  Members may register online at www.wyfb.org, email: juliejohnson@wyfb.org or call 307-721-7723.

The Wyoming Farm Bureau Federation is the state’s largest general agriculture organization. The primary goals of the organization are to protect private property rights and help members achieve an equitable return on their investment.
