Wyoming Wolf Lawsuit to be Dropped

WildEarth Guardians asked to drop the Wyoming suit in order to focus on a similar lawsuit in Washington, D.C.

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) – A federal judge has denied a request from the state of Wyoming and other groups to force a coalition of environmental groups to continue a lawsuit challenging recent federal action turning wolf management over to the state.

WildEarth Guardians and other groups last year asked U.S. District Judge Alan B. Johnson of Cheyenne to allow them to drop their lawsuit. The coalition said it wants to support a similar lawsuit still pending in Washington, D.C.

Johnson on Tuesday denied a request from the state and a number of pro-hunting organizations to keep the Wyoming lawsuit alive and dismissed it.

Wyoming's management plan classifies wolves as predators that can be shot on sight in much of the state. Environmental groups have argued the plan fails to afford them adequate protection.
