Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers Conference Jan. 22-23 in Deadwood, S.D.

–Peterson Farm Brothers are keynote speakers

 

          “YF&R:  Shaping Tomorrow’s Future” is the theme of the Jan. 22-23, 2016 Joint Farm Bureau Young Farmer & Rancher (YF&R) Conference in Deadwood, S.D.   The Wyoming Farm Bureau and the South Dakota Farm Bureau are joining together for another joint conference you won’t want to miss.  The conference is open to all young agricultural producers between the ages of 18-35 (no membership necessary) and all Farm Bureau members.  Children are welcome.    

          “YF&R: Shaping Tomorrow’s Future” will provide useful topics, motivation and networking for Wyoming’s and South Dakota’s young agricultural producers.  

          The conference kicks-off at noon on Friday, Jan. 22 with a keynote presentation “Tell Me More” by Kellie Bray with CropLife America.  Bray will talk about crop protection use and how to become a more effective advocate for agriculture.

          Breakout sessions on Friday include:

·        “An Evolving Nutrition Focus with Beef” with Holly Swee;

·        “Working with the Media” with Hayie Shipp; and

·        Opportunities Galore—Take Your Pick” with Marty Tatman, American Farm Bureau Federation.

The general session will feature a panel discussing the topic of “Transitioning the Farm/Ranch to the Next Generation.”  The panel includes a banker, a young rancher and a veteran rancher.

Producers can network and learn more about Farm Bureau’s YF&R Discussion Meet competition at Friday evening’s dinner.  They will also hear from Wyoming farmers and AFBF YF&R Committee Members Cole and Sammie Coxbill.

          Saturday begins with morning devotions with Kyle and Stacy Berger at the 8 a.m. breakfast.

Breakout sessions on Saturday include:

·        “Farm Management Program” with the Dave Koupal of the Mitchell Technical Institute;

·        Bryan Lutter, Independent Crop Consultant; and

·        “Wooden Sign Craft Session” with Bekah Ihnen, SDFB YF&R

The Peterson Farm Brothers are Saturday’s keynote speakers.  Their “Advocating Agriculture Through Social Media” presentation will address frequently asked questions about their parody videos as well as parody hit live performances.  They will talk about the need for agriculture advocacy and how each individual can take action to promote whatever it is they believe in.  The speaker sponsor for the Peterson Farm Brothers is Farm Credit Services of America.

Tours will take place Saturday afternoon featuring the Center of the Nation Wool Warehouse, Sanford Underground Research Facility, and the McNenny Fish Hatchery.  The tours will conclude in Belle Fourche with dinner sponsored by New Generation Supplements and Zinpro.

The registration fee is $85/adult.  The agenda and registration form are available at www.wyfb.org or you may call 307.532.2002.  The registration deadline is Jan. 14, 2016.  Late registrations will be accepted based on availability after Jan. 14 at $100/adult. 

Children are welcome; childcare will be provided on-site for attendees who have young families and want to bring their children along.  **Must indicate if you will utilize daycare when registering.
